As a result of aging dams and inconsistent level controlling of Great Central Lake, hundreds of thousands of salmon fry are at risk each year. Between early August and late October lake levels are dramatically dropped resulting in the drying up of prime salmon fry habitat. This high density fry habitat occurs along the shallow flooded nursery zones and at the mouth of the many rivers and streams that enter Great Central Lake.

Omega Pacific Staff and local volunteers have spent countless hours saving by dip-netting stranded fry and releasing them back into the lake. This “fry salvage” initiative is heading into its fourth year and to date these efforts have been paid for entirely by Omega Pacific.
